Blankets on trees
They put blankets on the trees you know, to keep them from being hurt or killed,
To protect and take care of them whilst the workmen build,
In England they wrap electric blankets around the palm trees to keep them safe on foreign soil,
If only we did that for people not just those scooped out the sea and wrapped in aluminium foil,
Wondering like lost luggage that they can never ever claim,
Did they cease to exist in this soul-less, inhuman, paper chain,
When they risked their lives on boats but we sent them back by plane,
There's this old lady in the park who scatters a kilo bag of rice on the ground for the fat birds to eat,
I told her there are food banks for people, it would help much more than being trod beneath the feet,
(She said she 'hadn't heard')
She told me that she didn't like people and that she preferred the birds,
"They don't talk back" were her parting words,
They always say how modern and connected we are in this day and age,
Yet how can we be? When there's so many without food or a decent living wage,
You know they can even fine you for sleeping in a public space,
They'll even fine you 'cause they don't like the look upon your face,
Even dieing carries such extortionate fees,
And soon even antibiotics won't cure our disease,
And maybe they should worry about the diminishing bees,
But they are too busy putting blankets on the trees !
