Drunk again
I drink until I can see myself, unreflected through the bottom of the bottle,
Foot on the pedal, and the pedal to the floor, caining it at full throttle,
Alcohol between new friends becomes the balm that seals,
Unknowns into best mates, at least that's how it feels,
Blanketed warmth that covets and soothes,
Around the sharp edges and deep down in the grooves,
A confident arrogance, a not giving a flying fuck,
Making friends out of enemies is always pushing your luck,
For whiskey neat, no word of a lie, even now still makes me wince,
That Christmas we broke in, drank them dry, I haven't been back since,
Getting emotional; teary-eyed or angry, victim or perpetrator, saint or sinner,
So lets just go get a round of drinks -not everyone can be a winner,
Find another enabler to accompany you on this ; for 'hell hath no fury like a drunk that's been wrong'
I'd never admit it, and I won't know the name but I'll know all the words to the very next song,
When you only popped in to have a quick half at the bar,
But are now 2 sheets to the wind with friends near and far,
Funny bar chats, dancing, playing pool, what a night was had by all,
Drunk again, spinning yarns, laughing hard, having a ball,
Until the morning, fuzzy headed, unrecognizable from the fall,
who now are you going to call?

Day 29 Prompt : Complete + .....
Complete set
She laid the cards as they came,
Not following suit, not at all the same,
We continued to play patience, though no-one had won nor given up yet,
Waiting around for that Ace of spades to complete the set,
Patience, poker, Old Maid, rummy, make some space,
As in life, hope for the best with each card we place,
A sequence, some order, we hope to have found,
As all those cards get dealt all around,
You never know which cards you will get,
Until you lay them down to complete your set,
Now the cards are stacked in your favour,
Easy living, a flow you can savour,

Day 28 Prompt : Directions poem
Directions
I passed by that street where we had first kissed and tasted the scent,
Took a left by that bar where we'd talked into the night until our money was all spent,
Along the tree lined path, with views west of the sea,
You told me how you were falling in love and I really wanted to agree,
I passed diagonally through the plaza where we'd waxed lyrical about the meaning of life,
I even took a right into the park, passed by the duck pond, where I had first met your wife,
She had directed me towards the fake-reality you had woven all around you,
The one I never knew about, for I was dazzled by glitter; unreal, untrue,
Yet still I walk this city, without a map, my head held high,
I'd rather be forever lost than to hear one more lie,

Day 27 Prompt : Exile
Her 12 year exile was coming to it's end,
As she packed up her life and prepared them to send,
Three kinds of exile; short, middle and long,
Though that voice deep within needs earth for its song,
Abandoned by your country all life is a mystery,
Roaming loose and free, unburdened by history,
Heart dripping, soul dancing to an unknown groove,
Evict, expel, exile, remove

Day 26 Prompt : Write a stolen poem (hearts/minds/time/etc)
Stolen time poem
Waiting for traffic lights, hearts and minds to change is their fate,
Waiting for the old lady to count out her change in the queue- her eyesight not great,
The friend who steals your time like a thief because she's always late,
For the slow train to arrive -though now your tickets out of date,
Breathe in the now a heightened state,
Out with the love and in with the hate!
These moments and people that steal your precious time,
Pickpocketing your minutes and hours and never paying for their crime,

Day 25 - Prompt : A View - 2 poems
The view
From my train; the soil tilled and watered perfect rows ready for planting,
Early mornings, workers bent over, no time to watch the sun rising,
Artichoke plants, fat hairy stems, with giant protective leaves,
Hundreds upon hundreds of heavy heads bobbing in the breeze.
My view
Tainted and tarnished with a rose-tinted hue,
That for every tree taken that we'd plant another anew,
Water, food, a roof over your head, basic rights so true,
That the very rich must pay their taxes in all countries they live -like as if we never knew!,
If someone is drowning like the rice does in a stew,
Sinking in depression or the sea, do we stand and watch as they do?
Where is the human ? Wrapped up in the legalities of international waters a heady, unsteady, brew,
If you want to pray to your god(s) then please go right on ahead,
But can't we build churches with mosques and synagogues all houses, all god(s) instead?
For right there I think our unification will finally begin to be fed,
We don't see that we are all just the same this should be enough to hold us together without enforced societal glue,
A conversation from love of our fellow human but then what do I know for this is only my point of view,
Thanks for the prompt!

Day 24 - Prompt : A correspondence poem (to fit on a postcard)
Foods great, wines lovely and so's the beer,
Wish you were here,
The water's so blue, so warm, and so clear,
Wish you were here,
We took a long walk along that pier,
Wish you were here,
Please be a dear & check my post as you live so near,
I hope to be back within the year,
I really wish that you were here.

Day 23 - Prompt : Sketch poem
A rough sketch
Something to work with, it's just a rough sketch,
Portrait or landscape gives room to grow n stretch,
Fuzzy, fearless, try before you fly, see how it grows,
Borderless, limitless, paperless, but you get how it goes,
Take it easy, take your time, let it happen as you go along,
If it feels like it's working out, then how can it be wrong,
Adding sparkles and glitter is the glue that holds us all together,
Sellotaped hearts that creak in the wind and ache, dependent on the weather,
Rough sketches work if you don't press too hard you can fix form and tone,
For nothing is forever nor is it fixed in stone,
So scribble away get it all pencilled in,
A sort of plan is better than zero to win,

Day 22 Prompt: Dark poem
Your ageless eyes imprinted upon me as we talked,
Then the lights went out,
They'd been cooking a meal together,
When the lights went out,
He was asleep; warm, cosy and alone,
When the lights went out,
I was with all the people I love and care for,
When the lights went out,
I was saving it all for best,
When the lights went out,
It was all just about to come together,
When the lights went out,
It was all just about to fall apart,
When the lights went out,
You came looking for me and took my hand,
When the lights went out,
I felt safe and sure, you knew this terrain,
When the lights went out,
Stumbling in the dark yet you never let me fall,
When the lights went out,
You had something so important you had to say,
When the lights went out,
My heart felt so full of love & then the lights went out.
Prompt: dark poem - (cave.,no electric, dark horse/dark angel/dark heart/ etc)

Day 21 - Prompts : Love poem and an Anti-love poem
Anti-Love poem
Has love just become another marketable product, wrapped in the shiny, plastic, packaging of a heavily, filtered photo, of the you you want to be,
Objectifing each other, based on our looks or how well we can take a perfect selfie instead of the soul behind the packet that we refuse to try to see,
Truthful, caring, love, we seem to have lost sight,
When we all sit in judgement with a swipe to the left or right,
Ghosting and hating just where is the love? how does that feel?
Does nobody want to work for something that could actually be real?
We need to be spoon fed, handed love upon a plate,
Give your love freely, don't expect it so early or too late,
For everything else is in the lap of fate not a one night stand or an online date.
Love Poem
How can they get to your heart? -Any way you choose,
Once fate, chance and destiny have all put on their shoes,
You're in their sights you cannot lose,
Loving yourself first shows your limits, for love is all you need,
For when you care enough to love nourish feed
Thanks for the prompts WD!

Day 20 - Prompt : Animal poems - 2 for the price of 1!!
Acrostic
Curling into warm comfy spaces,
Agile and fast but with airs and graces,
Twitching that tail to not lose face,
So supple and lean with claws so mean
August 2018 on the island of Formentera
To be reborn as a cat in Formentera is the best it can be,
No tiger, nor monkey, nor dolphin for me,
When my bones turn to dust and my soul roams free,
Reincarnate me as a cat in Formentera surrounded by the sea.

Day 19 - Prompt : Write a reason poem
To soothe the turbulent storms within and out, I write,
To understand myself and the world around me, I write,
To grow my vocabulary with an antonym or synonym, I write,
To clarify problems all the better to find solutions I write,
To articulate my thoughts and feelings into the tangible, I write,
To review my past from the comfort of my present moment I write,
To put out fires in a world for hire I write,
For every season I'll find a reason to write.

Day 18 Prompt: Catch + .....Release+
I catch a train a mundane thought,
It starts to rain and you get caught,
Pitter, patter of raindrops a slow release,
The pills will start working you'll find some peace,
I find myself being impatient, angry, before I see it for what it is; An unnecessary reaction within, so I reframe,
I consciously release myself and everybody else, from this reactionary game,
I catch myself having a meltdown when I can't refill a script,
I release them from my problem - it's not their fault I'm still an addict,
If you catch yourself sinking and your life-jacket's lost with your boat,
Remember to release yourself from the ties that bind you and then you'll stay afloat,
Now when I catch myself thinking, I always take a step back from my enemy lines,
I release myself from my own harshness that costs so dearly in metaphorical fines,

Day 17 - Prompt : Barcelona
Barcelona - You beautiful beast !
People towers, walking for hours, special sauce for the onions (calçots) on a public BBQ,
Asking who is the last when you have to form a queue,
She's always giving me all she's got,
Is it pollution or pollen that has my sinuses filled with snot,
Thief's and robberies everyday but sometimes thwarted,
One every four minutes and that's just the ones that are reported,
Side streets of the gothic quarter, green spaces and coastal views,
She'll make you feel energised and real or as if you've lost all your screws,
So be careful out there for she's both magnificent and mental,
One day dancing on tables, rebeliously flashing her knickers the next day soft, safe and sentimental,
Prompt: Write about a city

Day 14 - Prompt: A lone poem
The silence re-energises me, envelopes me, gets under my skin,
I can finally not feel guilty for a Friday night spent in,
I need to recharge just like a battery inside of a mobile phone,
Put me in airplane mode and let me spend some time on my own,
I love my family and I love my friends and I never want those times to end,
Yet I know I need time, a little space,
Even in a crowd you can feel out of place,
To feel very alone is a concept I rarely find,
For feeling lonely is just a state of mind,
You can feel alone even in a busy bar,
It really helps you to know who you are,
If you're scared to be alone then how will you ever know yourself?
You'll always be surrounded by people who might be bad for you and your mental health,
So take a step back, and just breathe and take some time out just for you,
The freedom to choose good people in your life is so powerful and true,

Day 13: 7 Prompt : The Art of.....
The art of knowing cutlery etiquette yet still using your left hand to shovel food in with a fork,
The art of falling over in a public place and making it look like it was part of your walk,
The art of never knowing the answer but giving it a go anyway,
The art of having a really hard time but it still turning into a really great day,
The art of being the last to enter a party and the last but 3 to leave,
The art of making magic happen is mostly getting
others to believe,
The art of telling a good story is if you draw it upon the stars,
The art of being near to your loved ones even when you are physically far,
The art of swearing whilst still retaining some charm,
The art of being in the eye of the storm yet remaining funcionably calm,
Oh just a few of the skills to master,
To give yourself the best happy after,

Day 12 - Dedication to You for all that I am
The void you left I fill with so many things,
Flowers, and hearts, and beautiful things,
But there's nothing in this world that fills that gap,
The only thing that would is if you walked right back,
Your family has got so much bigger now with so many additions a new,
Your nephews and nieces are now parents and I know you've met your grandaughter and grandsons too,
You'd be so proud of us all and the changes we've made,
I know someone as special as you could never have stayed,
This poem is dedicated to you for all I am and all I'll always strive to be,
Strong values you instilled in me and when I look in the mirror it's still your eyes that I see,
So here's a dedication to you and all that's good and true,
For there will never be another that could ever be like you.
#Another year without you another poem about you.

Strong values you instilled in me and when I look in the mirror it's still your eyes that I see,
So here's a dedication to you and all that's good and true,
For there will never be another that could ever be like you.
#Another year without you another poem about you.

Day 11 - Prompt : Case (of the missing person)
The Case of the missing person as yet unfound - by the best detective for miles around.
Home visit interview at nine-thirty,
With a heavily pregnant Mrs Berty,
She brings in a tray with biscuits too,
She spills the tea and right then I knew,
The whites of her eyes,
Her apologetic cries,
"Mrs Berty when did you see your husband last?"
Her eyes swivel up to recall the recent past,
She sits down heavily, eyes full of pain,
The colour from her face all but drained, she says in a tiny voice her words pre-trained and strained;
"Whenever I wake up and he's no longer there,
His empty presence, it's so hard to bare, I feel so lost I keep looking at his chair, the kids carry on as usual as if they don't really care! I know he's gone and left us but I want to know where?!"
I take my leave and go house to house, chatting with neighbours that live nearby,
Things don't add up about the husband; no friends nor family, an angry, bitter guy,
"We've checked in every obvious place" said the rooky cop "...but he's gone and disappeared without a goddamn trace",
The profile's wrong, it can't be true,
Have you tried where the whisky's cheap and the women are too?
There's something we're missing some other clue.
As I composed myself I realised I knew.
I returned for another visit with the strong, weak, and blooming Mrs Berty,
The garden was clean and beautiful yet the house was really dirty,
Though I'd said no thanks, she still brought me tea,
She had something to say, of that I could see,
I'd done my research I'd checked her out,
Though I still really needed to know what she was about,
Trembling like the victim she once was- a facade of the person she'd been, her permanent disguise,
I'd read the many police reports of her walking into doors; broken noses, teeth and blackened eyes,
She whispered: "The kids are so sad I think they miss their dad,
I whispered back; "To do what you did it must have been bad, I think we both know that he's never going to be found, The recent work in your garden means he's probably under ground."
Her hands flew to her stomach, eyes wide, adsent-mindedly picking top soil from under her nails,
I knew the truth as nothing gets past me, for even the most perfect crimes have emotionally epic fails,
I watched her and her thought processes; thinking of her little one or perhaps what she had done,
I wanted to tell her how I had once known him, a long, long, time before,
When he'd kicked the unborn baby out of me as I'd lain helplessly on the floor,
But I didn't.
Instead I thanked her for the tea, getting cold in the stained cup as I stood to rise,
I told her to keep up her story, clean up the house and to believe in her own lies,
As I turned to leave she reached out to me and took my hand,
She said she knew who I was & how she'd hoped I'd understand,
I wished her luck and left quick smart,
Before our tears could even start,
I filed my report; Just another missing person to add to the list,
Better she lives with the threat of discovery than the loving kiss of his fist.
Thanks WD for your prompt from last year!
